The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and the National Formulary (NF) are the official compendia of standards for drugs, excipients (inactive ingredients), dietary supplements, and other therapeutic products for the United States and several other countries.
The USP contains legally recognized standards of identity, strength, quality, purity, packaging, storage, and labeling for active ingredients and other therapeutic products.
The NF includes standards for excipients, botanicals and other „non-drug” ingredients used in drug preparations.
USP 33–NF 28 features more than 4,400 monographs for drug substances, dosage forms, excipients, dietary supplements, and other therapeutics, plus more than 200 General Chapters and harmonized material. It also provides current guidelines for the full range of laboratory tests and established processes for validating methods. USP 33–NF 28 is official from May 1, 2010 to April 30, 2011. Annual subscriptions include a main edition and two Supplements.
